Days after the heartbreaking news of Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte’s passing at the age of 34, his mother, Dyna Mitte, has broken her silence to share devastating details surrounding his final moments and her desire to raise mental health awareness.
The actor, widely recognized for his portrayal of Walter White Jr. across all five seasons of the acclaimed drama series, was found dead in Brownsville, Texas, in what authorities and representatives confirmed as a suicide.

“A Mother Should Never Have to Find Their Child This Way”
Speaking in an emotional interview, Dyna recalled the morning she discovered her son after he failed to respond to multiple phone calls.
“So I called him at 11:00 AM. He didn’t answer, so I picked up lunch and went to take it to him, and that’s when I discovered him. A mother should never have to find their child this way.”
Dyna explained that because RJ frequently slept late into the afternoon, she initially felt no alarm when he didn’t answer his phone. She believes his decision was made in a “spur-of-the-moment” manner, noting that he left no suicide note behind.
Battles Behind the Scenes
Reflecting on the months leading up to the tragedy, Dyna revealed that RJ had been navigating personal hardships and emotional struggles.
“For the last three months, I had been offering for him to go to therapy, trying to get him to go, but he was like, ‘No, I’ve got it. It’s OK. I’m handling it,’” she recalled, expressing heartbreak over not pushing harder for him to seek professional support.
Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age, Mitte was not only a celebrated actor but also a prominent advocate for disability rights, serving as a ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and leading The Mitte Foundation as president.
